The Yipeng Illumination Festival, also known as Yi Peng or Loy Krathong, is a significant annual event celebrated primarily in northern Thailand, particularly in Chiang Mai.
During the Yipeng festival, thousands of people gather in Chiang Mai to release lanterns into the sky. These lanterns, known as khom loi, are traditionally made of thin fabric stretched over a bamboo frame and are illuminated by a candle or fuel cell. In addition to the lantern release, the festival often includes various cultural performances, traditional Thai music, dance shows, and food stalls offering local delicacies.
In the afternoon, make your own way to the meeting point where you'll be picked up and driven to the festival site by shared transfer.
Once you've arrived at the venue, you'll receive a badge and a souvenir, and will then be immersed in a world of activities, including a visit to the handicraft area and the tribal village, where you can discover the traditions of the festival.
You'll then enjoy a Thai Lanna buffet dinner with a variety of snacks, desserts, and refreshing non-alcoholic beverages.
After dinner, you can attend rituals in front of the great pagoda, such as a drum and candle show, or monk chanting, which will immerse you in the festival atmosphere and Thai culture.

Once the festival is over, you'll board your transfer back to the meeting point.
