Discover the filming locations of the famous Downton Abbey series on a day trip to Highclere Castle, Bampton and Oxford from London !
Starting from Victoria, you'll leave London for a day dedicated to the Downton Abbey series, and traditional England.
First stop Oxford, famous for its "colleges" which form Oxford University, its bookshops and cobbled streets. Accompanied by your guide, you'll discover the city on a walking tour, before enjoying free time for lunch, or continuing to explore the city.
You'll then hop back on the bus to Bampton. In this small, typically British village in the Cotswolds in the county of Oxford, many Downton Abbey village scenes are shot. Perhaps you'll recognize some of the series' famous locations, such as the exterior of Isobel Crawley's house, Downton Abbey's hospital, or St. Mary's Church, renamed St Michael and All Angels in the series.
You'll then reach Highclere Castle, where the series' main scenes are shot. Open only a few weeks of the year, Highclere Castle was built by Sir Charles Berry, who also built London's Parliament.
Inhabited by the de Carnarvon family, you'll visit the castle's public rooms, such as the great hall, library and some salons, where scenes from the hit series are shot.
You can also walk in the gardens, where enjoy a traditional afternoon tea (not included).
Before you leave, you'll be presented with a copy of one of the books by Lady Carnarvon, the "real" Countess of Downton Abbey, as a souvenir.
Finally, you'll return to London in the early evening.
