Discover the iconic Paris Pantheon! Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, this Neoclassical monument conceals a wealth of historical, artistic and cultural treasures.

Its unique silhouette and dome stand out on the city skyline from the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève, the historic hill of the Latin Quarter. Since the French Revolution, this ancient church dedicated to the patron saint of Paris houses a necropolis of great Republican figures in its crypt.

The Pantheon was commissioned by Louis XV who wanted to erect a building honouring the glory of the monarchy. Then the 1791 Revolution requisitioned the monument and bestowed it to the Republic, creating an ultimate patriotic symbol: the National Pantheon. However, during the 19th century the site was intermittently revered as a religious symbol and a symbol of the people. Is was only in 1885, when the body of Victor Hugo was committed to the Pantheon, that the building became recognized as the resting place for important figures of the Republic: Voltaire, Rousseau, Zola, and even Pierre and Marie Curie are buried here. 

Enter the monument to admire the interior decorated by great academic painters such as Puvis de Chavannes and Léon Bonnat. Discover the many celebrities buried within then make your way up into the Dome to admire incredible views of the capital!

  • Validity: Every day (except 1/01, 1/05, 25/12 and exceptional cases)
  • Hours: 10am to 6pm/6.30pm* (given as a rough guide, please visit the monument's website to check opening times)
    On the first Monday of each month the monument opens at 12pm
  • Duration: free visit
     
  • You are asked to select a tentative date when booking. Please note, however, that you will be able to take the tour on the date of your choice (see expiry date on your ticket)
  • Last admission 45 min before closing. Depending on attendance, the time of last access may be brought forward.
  • A tour document available in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Russian will be given to you at the entrance
  • Participants under 18 years of age and European Union residents under 26 years of age may enter free of charge on presentation of ID
    PLEASE NOTE: all beneficiaries of free admission must pass through the ticket office to check their proof of entitlement
  • Access is free for disabled people and their companions, with no need to pass through the ticket office
  • Free admission for all on Heritage Days
  • The dome is open from April to October. Tickets can be purchased directly on site
  • Foucault's pendulum in the Pantheon will not be visible from January 26, due to restoration work
  • Free admission on the first Sunday of each month only applies from November to March
     
  • Please note that all tickets issued are non-cancellable, non-changeable and non-refundable
